The VOX file format is a 3D format designed for the storage of Voxel-styled 3D graphics. Voxels, or volumetric pixels, made famous by the popular videogame Minecraft, are the 3D equivalent of a 2D bitmap pixel.

Individual voxels are stored within the VOX file and, when combined, can form complex 3D objects. The information stored will include the 3D coordinate of each voxel, along with other display properties and metadata.
