With our BMP to STL converter, you can effortlessly convert your BMP image file into a 3D heightmap model, which can then be loaded into your favorite 3D editing software. Our image to STL tool can batch convert up to 20 BMP files at one time and quickly turn them into 3D models.
Or drag and drop your files here to upload.
A maximum of 20 files can be uploaded at once.
Our BMP to STL image conversion tool comes with a set of options allowing you to fine-tune the details of how the 3D model is generated. Once you have selected a file, you will see a button, which you can click to reveal adjustable properties such as whether the tool should use a Heightmap or Extrude algorithm to create the 3D model. There are also properties to control the size and detail of the model.
Here are two simple steps to convert your BMP to STL using our fast and free BMP converter tool.
First, click the "Upload..." button and select your BMP file to upload. Your BMP file will be uploaded to our servers. When the BMP to STL conversion has completed, you can download your STL file right away.
We aim to process all BMP to STL conversions as quickly as possible; this usually takes around 5 seconds; however, this can be longer for certain files, so please be patient.
We aim to provide the best conversion experience. Our tools are under constant review and development, with new features being added every week.
Our tool uses a Heightmap process whereby the STL 3D model is created based on the luminosity of the individual pixels in your BMP image.
Yes, to ensure our tool converts the BMP image quickly and with a reasonable final file size, your tool will resize any image larger than 600x600 pixels.

BMP files are used to store bitmap images in a simple and uncompressed manner. Introduced by Microsoft in the 1980s as a standard image format for use with their Windows operating system, the format has evolved over the years and is still relevant today.
Due to the uncompressed nature of BMP files, they can quickly grow in size when using high resolutions. Modern formats such as PNG and JPEG can be used as an alternative when dealing with larger images or images where transparency is a requirement (PNG only).
The BMP format supports different pixel color depths, allowing creators to minimise file sizes if their content has a lower color depth. Due to their age and popularity, BMP files can be opened in most modern image editing applications without requiring conversion tools.

The STL, or Standard Triangle Language, file format has been around since the '80s and is supported by most modern 3D modeling applications. In particular, the STL format has become something of a standard format within the area of 3D printing, despite the rise of more modern formats such as 3MF.
STL files come in two flavors: binary or text format. The text format is human-readable, making it easy to perform manual edits, but can lead to very large file sizes. As you can imagine, the binary format is much more compact and represents the majority of the STL files you are likely to encounter.
The format itself is very simple; the 3D model is represented by a sequential list of triangles, with each triangle defined with 3 points consisting of their X, Y, and Z positions, along with an additional vector that contains the face normal (the direction the face is pointing). There is an additional attribute block for each triangle; however, this is largely unused and thus unsupported.
Our BMP converter will convert your BMP file to a 3D model using the Heightmap process, whereby 2D pixels, based on their luminosity, are converted into 3D space to create a full 3D STL model ready for download for further processing in your favorite 3D editing package or for printing on a 3D printer.
