RGBA files are a type of image file where the image data consists of a stream of raw pixel data with no header information. This lack of header information, which usually contains the image dimensions among other properties, means the image size must be input prior to loading an RGBA image in order for it to be displayed correctly.

Within an RGBA file, image data is stored as a sequence of uncompressed red, green, blue, and alpha (transparency) values used to represent each pixel. The colour and alpha channels are 8 bits in size, creating a total of 24 bits across the RGB colour range, or roughly 16.7 million colours.
