A 3DS file is a legacy 3D graphics format originally created for use with the 3D Studio software. Although widely supported at the time, 3DS files have fallen in popularity and have been replaced as the 3D format of choice by more capable formats.
There are considerable limitations when working with 3DS files. One major limitation is the format's use of 16-bit values, which limit the total number of vertices and faces to 65536. This number was plenty large enough when the format was created in the early 1990s but has since become a limiting factor with modern 3D models containing millions of vertices and polygons.
Despite its limitations, a significant number of 3DS models still exist, and there are many 3D modeling packages out there that offer support for importing these files.
3DS Converter Capabilities
Our 3DS 3D Model/Mesh tool does not support any color material data contained within 3DS files, so the converted file will not contain any color information.

An MP4 file is a modern standard format for storing high-quality motion video in a highly compact and efficient file size. The specific compression algorithm used within an MP4 file can vary from file to file; however, they all enable what would otherwise be a large amount of uncompressed data to be reduced to a fraction of the original size with little or no noticeable difference in playback quality.
Due to their widespread support, MP4 files can be loaded into most video editing applications and played with most video playback software with no additional drivers. Most video sharing sites, such as YouTube, support MP4 as a format when uploading, and most tablets and smart phones can record in the MP4 format.
Audio stored within an MP4 file is usually stored in the MP3 format, taking advantage of that format's high quality and compression capabilities.
The 3DS 3D format does not support animations within our conversion tool, so our tool will create a simple 360-degree rotating 3D animation that will be rendered to a MP4 file ready for download.
