Here are 2 simple steps to convert your X3D to OBJ using our fast and free X3D converter tool.
Extension | X3D |

Type | 3D Model |
Mime Type | model/x3d+xml |
Format | Text |
Opens With | Blender, MeshLab |
The X3D file format was introduced in 2002 as a successor to the 3D VRML (WRL) file format. X3D files contain 3D mesh and model information defined using vertices, faces, normals and material data making it broadly as capable as the older VRML format.
X3D files are structured Xml text based files allowing full 3D scenes containing models comprised of 3D mesh data and other simple shapes. There are browser extensions that allow X3D files to be directly embedded within Html to allow rendering directly to a web page however the format has not seen widespread adoption.
X3D Converter Capabilities
When converting 3D Model/Mesh files using our [ey] converter we will attempt to convert color materials into a suitable format for use in the converted file.
Extension | OBJ |
Full Name | Wavefront |
Type | 3D Model |
Mime Type | text/plain |
Format | Text |
Opens With | MeshLab, CAD Assistant, DAZ Studio |
The OBJ file format originally created by Wavefront Technologies and later adopted by many other 3D software vendors is a simple text-based file format for describing 3D model/geometry. This data can include Vertices, Faces, Normals, Texture Coordinates and references to external Texture files.
As the format is text-based it is relatively straight-forward to parse by 3D modelling applications. A downside of the text-based format is the files can be rather large compared to similar binary formats such as STL and compressed files such as 3MF.
Your X3D file will be converted to a OBJ file using our unified 3D model and mesh conversion tool. Our X3D 3D tool performs accurate conversions of 3D elements such as vertices, faces, normals and relevant material information. As X3D supports color materials and OBJ does not, our tool will not attempt to transfer any color information, your final 3D model will contain geometry data only.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your X3D file to upload. Your X3D file will be uploaded to our servers. When the X3D to OBJ conversion has completed, you can download your OBJ file straight away.
We aim to process all X3D to OBJ conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds however this can be longer for certain files, so please be patient.
We aim to provide the best conversion experience. Our tools are under constant review and development with new features being added every week.
