You can use our OBJ to STP conversion tool to quickly convert your 3D model (with optional texture files) for free. You may upload up to 20 files at one time, and our batch OBJ to STP converter will process each 3D model and present you with a download link for each file once completed.
Or drag and drop your files here to upload.
A maximum of 20 files can be uploaded at once.
Our 3D model OBJ to STP tool will load your OBJ file and, where supported, attempt to extract all the relevant 3D features, such as geometry, textures, and animations. To access the 3D conversion configuration options, click the button when you have selected your files. The current options support the ability to voxelize your 3D model and more.
Here are two simple steps to convert your OBJ to STP using our fast and free OBJ converter tool.
First, click the "Upload..." button and select your OBJ file to upload. Your OBJ file will be uploaded to our servers. When the OBJ to STP conversion has completed, you can download your STP file right away.
We aim to process all OBJ to STP conversions as quickly as possible; this usually takes around 5 seconds; however, this can be longer for certain files, so please be patient.
We aim to provide the best conversion experience. Our tools are under constant review and development, with new features being added every week.
In order to successfully convert an OBJ formatted file to the STP format, our converter tools will perform several initial checks to ensure the file provided is indeed an OBJ file. There are many files out there where the file type extension does not match the data contained within the file. To make things more difficult when working with OBJ files is the fact the OBJ file extension is used for other file formats such as the X-Plane format.
Along with these file type checks, our tools will do additional checks to ensure the file is correctly formatted to match the provided file type. There are many tools out there that do not always create OBJ files to the exact specification.
The Wavefront OBJ file format is a text-based format, meaning its contents are human-readable, making smaller OBJ files easy to edit in simple text editors. Larger 3D models quickly generate large text files making hand-editing them in a text editor unwise. Within this text-based format are the core elements that make up the 3D model, including vertices, faces texture coordinates. To ensure efficient conversions, our tool will check all data that is contained within the OBJ file and remove any information that is duplicated. This not only ensures the conversion completes more quickly, but also the generated STP file size is smaller.
As the STP file format does not support material textures, our tool when processing the OBJ file will ignore any texture image files that may be present. It will also ignore any texture coordinate information present in the 3D model data.
Now that the data from the OBJ file has been processed, our tool can apply any conversion specified options, such as enabling Voxel mode, and with these applied, prepare the data to be converted to the final STP file format. Part of this process ensures checking the capabilities of the STP format and removing any data that cannot be represented.
At this point, the OBJ to STP conversion tool will have the 3D model in a state that is ready to be transferred to the STP format. Our tool creates the STP file, ensuring all the model data is present and is formatted to match the STP file specification to ensure the file opens in compatible STP file editors. As STP files can quickly become very large due to the inefficiencies of the STP format when used in conjunction with large OBJ mesh files, our converter will only convert OBJ files to STP when the resulting file is no larger than 100 MB.

The OBJ file format is a 3D graphics file format used to define complex 3D models, including geometry, materials, and textures. OBJ files are text files, making them human-readable and easy to modify by hand. The downside to this ease of readability is that the files can become rather large when dealing with large or complex 3D models.
As mentioned, the OBJ format stores not only 3D model geometry but also materials and textures. These materials are usually defined in a separate file with the MTL file extension and specify geometry rendering details such as diffuse and specular colour, transparency, and much more.
The OBJ material file can also reference external texture files. These are usually JPEG or PNG files; however, these can be older formats, such as TGA. Where materials are used, the OBJ file will also contain material names preceding the geometry faces they should be applied to. If textures are referenced, the geometry will also contain texture coordinates (UV) for each vertex.

STP files are a 3D file format used to store complex 3D object definitions in a standard format to facilitate data transfer between compatible 3D modelling and CAD (Computer Aided Design) applications. In addition to storing 3D object data, the STP format can store additional information such as materials, tolerances, and other relevant data.
The STP format was first released in the early 1990's, has become a standard for 3D object storage, and is used in automotive, electronics, and other industries. STP files can be opened in most modern CAD applications and can be imported into many 3D modelling applications too.
The file content is ASCII text-based and conforms to the ISO-10303-21 standard. The 3D object contained within the STP file is described using a combination of points, lines, and edges. Due to the format being ASCII text, complex objects can lead to large file sizes. In addition to large file sizes, some complex STP files can take a long time to open within editing applications, even on a high-spec, modern computer.
STP Converter Capabilities
When converting your OBJ to STP, our tool will attempt to accurately convert any colour or material information.
Your OBJ file will be converted to a STP file using our unified 3D model and mesh conversion tool. Our OBJ 3D tool performs accurate conversions of 3D elements such as vertices, faces, normals, and relevant material information. As both OBJ and STP support colour material information, our tool will also attempt to convert the colour information.
