You can use our WRL to X3D conversion tool to quickly and easily convert your 3D model files for free. You may upload up to 20 files at one time, and our batch WRL to X3D converter will process each 3D model and present you with a download link for each file once completed.
Or drag and drop your files here to upload.
A maximum of 20 files can be uploaded at once.
Our 3D model WRL to X3D tool will load your WRL file and, where supported, attempt to extract all the relevant 3D features, such as geometry, textures, and animations. To access the 3D conversion configuration options, click the button when you have selected your files. The current options support the ability to voxelize your 3D model and more.
Here are two simple steps to convert your WRL to X3D using our fast and free WRL converter tool.
First, click the "Upload..." button and select your WRL file to upload. Your WRL file will be uploaded to our servers. When the WRL to X3D conversion has completed, you can download your X3D file right away.
We aim to process all WRL to X3D conversions as quickly as possible; this usually takes around 5 seconds; however, this can be longer for certain files, so please be patient.
We aim to provide the best conversion experience. Our tools are under constant review and development, with new features being added every week.
In order to successfully convert an WRL formatted file to the X3D format, our converter tools will perform several initial checks to ensure the file provided is indeed an WRL file. There are many files out there where the file type extension does not match the data contained within the file. Along with these file type checks, our tools will do additional checks to ensure the file is correctly formatted to match the provided file type. There are many tools out there that do not always create WRL files to the exact specification.
The WRL file format is a text-based format, meaning its contents are human-readable, making WRL files easy to edit in simple text editors. Within this text-based format are the core elements that make up the 3D model, including vertices, faces, and more. To ensure efficient conversions, our tool will check all data that is contained within the WRL file and remove any information that is duplicated. This not only ensures the conversion completes more quickly, but also the generated X3D file size is smaller.
Now that the data from the WRL file has been processed, our tool can apply any conversion specified options, such as enabling Voxel mode, and with these applied, prepare the data to be converted to the final X3D file format. Part of this process ensures checking the capabilities of the X3D format and removing any data that cannot be represented.
At this point, the WRL to X3D conversion tool will have the 3D model in a state that is ready to be transferred to the X3D format. Our tool creates the X3D file, ensuring all the model data is present and is formatted to match the X3D file specification to ensure the file opens in compatible X3D file editors.

The WRL (or VRML) file format is used to store 3D models and their environments in a simple-to-edit, plain text format. The WRL format has been around since the 1990s and has gained widespread support as a convenient 3D graphics format.
The 3D data is stored within the file in a hierarchical format, allowing 3D objects to be grouped and manipulated together. The format also allows 3D objects to be assigned unique IDs, allowing them to be referenced elsewhere in the same document, allowing the same 3D model to be used multiple times while only defining its vertices, faces, and other 3D data once.
While the format still enjoys support within many 3D editing applications, the WRL format has been officially superseded by the XML-based X3D format, which comes with more features and, with its use of the standard XML format, more support amongst 3D modelling applications.

When converting 3D model or mesh files using our WRL converter, we will attempt to convert colour materials into a suitable format for use in the converted file.

The X3D format is similar to the older WRL 3D modelling format, updated with more features and using a more modern XML file structure. It is designed for describing website virtual worlds.
As it was designed to be the successor to the WRL format, the X3D format supports most of the same capabilities, such as 3D mesh definitions via elements such as the IndexedFaceSet, which comprises geometrical vertices, faces, normals, texture coordinates, and more.
Due to the use of XML to store 3D information, files can grow quite large with complex 3D models. Support for X3D has been mixed, with some 3D editing applications building in access to the format and others mostly ignoring it in favor of other formats such as FBX and GLB.
X3D Converter Capabilities
When converting your WRL to X3D, our tool will attempt to accurately convert any colour or material information.
Your WRL file will be converted to a X3D file using our unified 3D model and mesh conversion tool. Our WRL 3D tool performs accurate conversions of 3D elements such as vertices, faces, normals, and relevant material information. As both WRL and X3D support colour material information, our tool will also attempt to convert the colour information.
