|Full Name||3D Studio Mesh|
The 3DS format has been a standard 3D format for many years. It has been the native file format for Autodesk's 3D Studio from the days of Microsoft's MS DOS. The age of the format began to show its limitations many years ago and was replaced by Autodesk when 3D Studio Max was launched.
There are however still many 3D model files circulating in the 3DS format and these can be easily converted using our 3DS conversion tools. Some of the limitations of the 3DS file format include: texture names limited to DOS 8.3 filenames, maximum number of vertices allowed in the 3D mesh is capped at 65536 and no support for directional lighting.
3DS Converter Capabilities
Our 3DS 3D Model/Mesh tool does not support any color material data contained within 3DS files so the converted file will not contain any color information.
|Full Name||Autodesk Filmbox|
|Opens With||Blender, MeshLab|
The FBX format by AutoDesk was originally developed by Kaydara in the 1990s as a means to store 2D or 3D content with motion data. It has evolved over the years to become a widely used format by 3D modelling applications such as Blender, 3D Studio Max and others due to its 3D animation capabilities.
The format is used to contain 3D models which includes vertices, faces and other 3D geometry along with animation data. The format is proprietary however there is a publicly available API to use for development purposes. The file contents can be either text or binary and work has been carried out by the Blender Foundation to document the format.
FBX Converter Capabilities
Our 3D conversion tool does not support color/material information in FBX files so your file will not contain any color information.
Your 3DS file will be converted to a FBX file using our unified 3D model and mesh conversion tool. Our 3DS 3D tool performs accurate conversions of 3D elements such as vertices, faces, normals and relevant material information. Our tool will not attempt to transfer any color information if present in your 3DS file, your final 3D model will contain geometry data only.
First click the "Upload..." button, select your 3DS file to upload. Your 3DS file will be uploaded to our servers. When the 3DS to FBX conversion has completed, you can download your FBX file straight away.
We aim to process all 3DS to FBX conversions as quickly as possible, this usually takes around 5 seconds however this can be longer for certain files, so please be patient.
We aim to provide the best conversion experience. Our tools are under constant review and development with new features being added every week.
